Pizza Log (day 2)

Here is what the piza looked like before we tried to put it in the oven

So yesterday Al bought a new stone from Target it was a pretty good deal at $8.99 and we tried to cook again. I for one thought it was going to go pretty smoothly, but once again we had a heck of a time getting the pizza off the peel and after about two completely failed attempts to get the pizza off the peel, we decided it was calzone day. So we folded the pizza and put it in the oven with ease, and although it wasn’t a pizza the end result was pretty tasty.

Cookin' some Pizza

So I've had this blog for a little over a year, we were required to create one during Eng 101 which I took last summer but I’ve never used it since then, but the events of last night have inspired me to write on this here thing.

In the past I have always enjoyed making pizza... well I enjoy eating pizza and its cheaper to make it than to buy it, but making it never tastes as good as buying it form a regular pizza store like Papa John's or anywhere else. Recently my brother al decided that we should cook a lot of pizza until it is as good as those purchased from the local pizza proprietor, so last night along with my brothers Al and Bob and Bob’s fiancé Katie we decided that we would try taking our pizza game to the next level, and the end result was the best homemade pizza I've ever ate but the journey was filled with bumps and near disasters. I guess maybe just... actual disasters.

In order to prep for the events, Al did some research on pizza cookery and came across a gentleman who appeared to have cooked some pretty mean pizzas in his days his suggestions included cutting off the oven lock and having the oven clean it self then when the oven gets to about 900 degrees you put the pizza in and in about 1 minute you have some good eats. We decided not to do this for two reasons, first we thought my mom would get mad if we defaced her oven and second 900 degrees is kinda hot. So instead I preheated the oven to 550 with the pizza stone inside.

So we made the pizza all pretty like and stuff Al then tried to get the pizza on to the pizza shovel (peel), but like all of the rest of us, Al is an armature and ripped a small whole in the bottom of the dough but recovered well and finally the pizza was on the peel then he went to put the pizza on the stone, the second the pizza landed on the stone, the stone cracked, but the pizza was cooking and looked pretty darn good, and it was.

After the first pizza we still had a lot of dough and so we went into round two. This time we decided to make the pizza directly on the peel, and so it went smoothly until it was time to unload the pizza onto the already cracked stone, this time bob operated the shovel and apparently, making the pizza directly on the peel gives it lots of time to get stuck onto it, and that is why chaos broke out in the kitchen. In order to unload the shovel, bob had to shake it vigorously causing toppings and cheese to fly all around the oven but eventually most of the pizza landed on the stone, at this point the stone broke into more pieces and smoke filled the house... then a pepperoni landed on the heating element and burst into flames, and so we were going to abort the mission until bob opened the oven and like the proverbial big bad wolf, Bob huffed and he puffed and he blew that flame out, then closed the oven and the pizza continued to cook and after it was done it was pretty good.

Now after the events of yesterday one would expect people would learn that maybe there not cut out to cook their own pizza, however Al and I are not these kind of people, and some may call us crazy, but tonight I plan on eating some good pizza, and after i get home from work and acquire a new stone were going to cook some pizza, and if I survive I will post about it tomorrow... if I remember to.
